art statement

I am a self-taught artist, and I grew up on an acreage just outside of Edmonton, Alberta. My nature-based work is inspired from my childhood spent outdoors & creative art-making, influenced by my artist-mother.

Painting became like therapy while recovering from foot surgery. My passion for painting was being renewed. Splashes of vibrant color became more important than tiny details. I began to explore my inner-child. Freedom from making mistakes & trusting the process became more natural.  Art-making has made a powerful impact on my physical, emotional & spiritual well-being.

I mainly paint fields of flowers in bright, bold acrylics. For me, it is less about painting a perfect flower. My intent is to invoke a feeling of whimsy, cheerfulness and joy through these images. Surrounded by nature on my Alberta acreage, I dedicate hours in my studio painting my love of the Alberta countryside.
