Art Statement
Giselle is a self-taught artist, who grew up on an acreage just outside of Edmonton, Alberta. Her nature-based work is inspired from her childhood spent outdoors & creative art-making, influenced by her artist-mother. Throughout school she excelled in art classes & began to nurture the talent she’d been given.
Music was her focus for several years, writing songs on piano & singing. In 2003 she had major foot surgery. The recovery was about 4 months, and this is when she led her back into painting.
Painting became like therapy while recovering from surgery. Her passion for painting was being renewed. Splashes of vibrant color became more important than tiny details–almost like painting like a child again. Freedom from making mistakes & trusting the process became more natural. Now, more than ever, Giselle knows the power art-making can have on our physical, emotional & spiritual well-being.
Giselle’s work focuses on fields of flowers and up-close blooms in bright color. The angle used in her work makes the viewer feel like they are inside the painting, almost like they are lying amongst the grass and flowers. Surrounded by nature on her Alberta acreage, she dedicates hours in her studio painting what she sees in her backyard.
